Acas early conciliation to be introduced in April 2014

Acas has published its response to the government's consultation on how the new mandatory early conciliation process should work.

The new system will be introduced by the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill, with the detail of the new system to be contained in regulations following consultation. The consultation was launched in January 2013 and closed on 15 February 2013 (see Legal update, Tribunal reform: government consults on system of early conciliation).

In its response to the consultation, Acas confirmed that the new system will be introduced in April 2014. It supported the government's "light-touch" approach, to avoid satellite litigation and make best use of Acas's expertise. Acas considers that the precise arrangements may need to be changed once the new process has begun.
