Employers….Avoid a Christmas Hangover!
This year’s relentless onslaught of office Christmas parties is well underway and already I’ve been speaking with some employers who have had to deal with a variety of staff related issues…….punch-ups, sexual harassment and even racial discrimination!!
Many Employers and Employees alike forget that the annual office Christmas party is an extension of the workplace as far as UK employment laws are concerned so to help Employers avoid the annual HR hangover, here are some top HR tips aimed at helping you steer your office party sleigh around this traditional festive HR minefield:
- Ensure all employees are aware of the company’s standard disciplinary and grievance procedures.
- If staff are expected to come in the day after the office party, make sure this has been clearly communicated to them beforehand
- At the office party, ensure all employees are catered for regardless of their age, sex, sexual orientation, religion or disability.
- Lastly, consider providing transportation from the party venue to ensure staff arrive home safely.

Great video!!
On a serious note, thanks for the tips, we actually created a ‘committee’ and consulted with staff about potential venues, nature of the party etc to try and make sure we catered for as many people as possible.
