Sugar appoints someone on “gut instinct”

Viewers of The Apprentice saw Yasmina appointed as Sir Alan Sugar’s latest apprentice last night. Sugar said the calibre in this year’s show was the best yet, and that he appointed Yasmina on “gut instinct” after a close challenge with rival Kate.

He urged people who had been made redundant as a result of the recession to apply for the next series. It was also revealed that a junior version will be aired next year, which will be aimed at 16 and 17 year-olds.

Sugar is to be given a peerage to take up his role as Enterprise Tsar announced last week in Gordon Brown’s cabinet reshuffle. The Conservatives said the appointed will cause a conflict of interest with his TV show.

Regarding the appointment of Yasmina, isn’t it strange that contestants had to carry out many tasks and a gruelling interview process, only to be appointed on gut instinct?
